i debated putting this list up all week. it's kind of embarrassing for me, as a writer and as a human being, to have only read 17 books over the 365 days that were 2011. that amounts to 1.41666666 books per month, aka not nearly enough. feeling guilty, i checked in with suzanne (also a writer) for comparison.
--------------------
katie: how many books have you read this year?
suzanne: i don't count, but i'd guess... 20? maybe a little higher, but i'll lump a bunch of cheesy vampire books into one group.
katie: i'm around there. i feel like it should be more, though…like i'm not doing a good job as a reader. i have no aspirations of reading a book/week…i like time to revel in it a bit, let it soak in. but 1/month is ridic. i think i'd be happy with 24 books/year. that's one every two weeks.
suzanne: i don't want to feel bad about how much i read or don't read. i do it for pleasure, and yes, there are many, many, many good books i want to read, but...we just can't read them all. i've made peace with it.
--------------------
so who knows what 2012 has in store? i know i need to step up my game--get beyond magazine pieces, short stories, and internet news (not that there is a single thing wrong with any of those mediums). but i fell in love with books before anything else, and i want to get back to that.
also, i need to be as well read as possible before the "potential" end of the world.

If I'd known you were going to quote me, I'd have inflated my numbers... And not mentioned the vampire books.
