The city of Chicago, along with my friend and Rahm's Deputy Director of Social Media Ankur Thakkar, launched Chicago Shovels last week. I took it as a gentle reminder that we won't be living in this 50-degree fantasy world forever. In fact, the snow is moving in on us tonight, with a predicted 6 inches by tomorrow. So, friends who live within a 20-mile radius of me, I recommend checking out this latest community building venture. You can track the snow plows, adopt a sidewalk, and join the snow corps, which connects volunteers with people who need help shoveling.
"Winter preparedness is everyone’s responsibility, and when we come together, community by community, block by block, we can help reduce the dangers and health risks that winter weather can bring," Mayor Emanuel said in a press release.
It's all about getting the information out there and connecting people with people, y'all.
P.S. Dan took that photo above the morning after last February's "snowpocalypse," "snowmageddon," "flurricane."
