the tour buses in chicago? covered in michigan ads. so i said to myself, "you should go see what the big deal is." then i said, "and also write about it."
i picked ann arbor, (home of the university of michigan, about an hour south of detroit), partly because i had heard good things and partly because a friend of mine had moved there. we spent 48 hours hunting down fairy doors, talking with farmers at the farmers market, drinking jars of sangria outside the law school, and playing tag on a maya lin sculpture. at the end of the day, i recommend you check out this enchanting, forward-thinking rust belt city for yourself. if you live in the midwest, it's drive-able, which means you have no excuse. if you don't live in the midwest, do yourself a favor and visit this fine example of the midwest. there's more happening here than you think.
(also, i wrote about the trip for positive magazine. soooooo......stop reading this and go read that.)
